Technologists in Critical Care acknowledged in Medical Journal

Two KFM technologists working in Critical Care have been acknowledged in a paper “Sharing a single ventilator (“In vitro”) in a Medical Journal, Medicina Intensiva written by Dr Sancho Rodriguez-Villar, a KCH Consultant in Critical Care.

Jonathan Saka

Sue is already well known to colleagues at KCH as former Lead Nurse in Theatres at Denmark Hill.

Her previous role means she is ideally qualified to take forward her new responsibilities as Clinical Procurement Specialist that include:

  • Providing expert specialist advice to KCH and KFM colleagues on clinical procurement issues to improve clinical practice and care

  • Increasing KFM understanding of clinical concerns and issues to support effective clinical procurement, including standardisation, rationalisation and best value.

Jonathan and Harvey were also included in the instructional video that demonstrates exactly how one ventilator can be used to support two patients.

To support the response of KCH to COVID-19, Jonathan and Harvey were deployed from Denmark Hill to the PRUH to support the Critical Care Unit. They have played a critical role in enabling the expansion of ICU capacity to support the patients and clinicians whilst setting-up the necessary additional capacity and accommodating the ever-changing demands.

On top of this they supported and advised a Critical Care Consultant in the technique of ventilating two patients with a standard ICU ventilator. This led to the publication of an article “Sharing a single ventilator (“In vitro”) in a Medical Journal, Medicina Intensiva. The paper has been key for further developments with the ventilators.

Jonathan and Harvey have supported the clinical staff and patients with utmost professionalism and friendliness. They have gone above and beyond what could ever have been expected and done a fantastic job despite the ever changing demands and challenges. Their professionalism, invaluable expertise, commitment, adaptability, energy, hard work and teamwork has been amazing!
— Prupti Malde, Head of Technical Services

Jonathan and Harvey exemplify the very best in the KFM Technical workforce. They have demonstrated the values and behaviours of KFM and have definitely gone the extra mile to innovate and collaborate whilst continuing to provide a first class technical service.
