Critical Care Technicians Recruitment & Retention

KFM Adult Critical Care Technicians

A year ago KFM had a vacancy factor of 31% across the company and was facing particular difficulty recruiting Critical Care Technicians & Technologists; a staff group for which demand far outstrips supply across healthcare.

We are delighted to report that:

  • At the beginning of November we had recruited to all our technician vacancies within Adult & Paediatric Critical Care

  • We have created new career structures for our technicians in Adult Critical Care but also in Theatres and Renal Dialysis

  • We have promoted 6 technicians across Adult Critical Care, Theatres and Renal Dialysis

  • We are interviewing for a new role of Head Technical Services to provide professional leadership to our technicians across all our services

  • We are working with Health Education England to launch two new entry level apprenticeship schemes – the first for Critical Care and second for Theatres, Renal Dialysis, Dental & Endoscopy - so that we have an internal pipeline to meet our future technician needs

  • We have launched the KFM Academy, the new KFM training function and virtual school.

  • We are on track to achieve a (less than) 5% vacancy rate by 31st March 2020

The result of this major recruitment drive, led by our senior technicians, should have an almost immediate impact on the quality of service we provide to KCH and ensure we have a robust career structure for our highly valued and skilled technician workforce.
