KCH and KFM win 'One Bromley Award' 2022
King’s College Hospital and KFM’s submission has won the One Bromley ‘Residents shaping and influencing integrated care’ Award 2022.
The award celebrates an innovative collaboration with young people with specialist educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The judging panel were extremely impressed with the work our two organisations are doing enabling the voices of young people with SEND to inform service provision.
Gavin Pettitt, Supply Chain Manager, Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) and southern sites, said: “It’s been a real pleasure to support these young people, seeing them taking the first steps into working life and how their confidence has grown as their knowledge and skills develop is inspiring and something I’m immensely proud to be part of. One of our interns has excelled in the role so much that we have offered them full-time employment once they finish the programme and college. They start with KFM in July 2022.”
José Santos, Matron at the PRUH, said: “It’s very rewarding to help the community. For instance, helping an adult with special needs to find a job opportunity can make a huge difference in their lives. Their integration into the workplace offers an opportunity for them to become part of a team. In the long-run it benefits their routines and it allows them to become part of a greater entity, feel useful and have a purpose. Having special needs persons in the team also benefits the team itself as it contributes to raise awareness on special needs individuals and increase kindness and tolerance among the team. I’m very thankful for my role as a Matron which allows me to set the example for my colleagues, so that hopefully in the future, people with special needs can be fully integrated in the workplace.”
